Hospitals are Fighting out the Staff Crunch 09/30/2008
As hospitals are experiencing huge deficit in the clinical staff to keep up with patient volume, their recruitment team is exploring ways to head hunt for fulfilling the need. The hospitals like St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Home Hospital are having tough times in fighting out the staff crunch. The situation is such bad that they have put fewer beds in the rooms because of the fewer staff members and nurses to look after them. Considering the mounting staff crunch in the medical hospitals and clinics, the Pima Medical Institute has decided to run an exclusive nursing program of six semesters to provide the more trained nursing staff at the hospitals in the area. Henry Jan, CEO of Healthcare of Today said that they are specifically focusing to fill the gap that will most certainly be left by the upcoming nursing shortage in the US by developing and acquiring nursing schools and staffing companies. It is estimated that at least a million new nurses will be needed nationwide by 2012. However there are not enough nursing students to fill the gap. Stuart Tousman, an Associate Professor in Health Psychology at Jefferson College of Health Sciences, has been awarded $20,000 grant from Carilion Clinic to start an adult asthma research study from October, 2008. People from everywhere who have asthma are invited to join the study. It is to help participant increase their knowledge of the disease and improve their lives. LPN to RN Programs had a very successful past. Survey says the new program will help to overcome the shortage of registered nurses by 2020. However the policies of Board of Nursing keep changing so one cannot be sure of it. Now LPN to RN Programs are in highest demand. Lower Columbia in 2007 also launched online LPN to RN Programs. U Hospital collaborates with Salt Lake Community College to provide free nurse education to students who work at U hospital for three years. This benefits the students as they get free education with a confirmed job. |
